The Design Process

• Space Planning: Marvin will focus on your ideas for your exterior ‘spaces’ with an eye on constraints and/or limitations of the space and other factors. Ultimately, the goal is to create well integrated connecting spaces, allowing you to move comfortably from one area to another.
• Hardscape Design: These are the patios, arbors, walls, etc., the unmovable fixtures – the ‘rooms’ – in your exterior living space.
• Softscape Design: The delicate balance of trees, plants, and shrubs that decorate and soften the line of hardscapes, including your home. The goal here is to give you the style and design you need but also to match it with your budget and the amount of maintenance you are comfortable with.
• Lighting: Extending your living space into the night is a major consideration in landscaping. Your landscape living space should be beautiful and useful well into the evening and lighting is a critical element to any landscape. In addition to being practical for safety and security reasons, the proper light can evoke mood (romantic, dramatic, or dreamy), and/or set off a particular focal point (water features, trees, architecture).
• Water Features: Marvin will incorporate a pool or spa, waterfall, pond, etc. with attention to style, space flow, and usability in relation to other elements. Marvin has extensive experience in the pool industry and is an expert pool designer.
• The Design: Marvin will put together your landscape design keeping in mind the decisions made during the planning stage. He will also provide a plant list and, if requested, an estimate of materials required.
• Walk-Through: If desired, Marvin will review the work post installation and create a punchlist of items to be modified, replaced, or added.
